Homalocladium is a genus in the buckwheat family Polygonaceae. These plants rarely produce leaves, and instead rely on their flattened stems for photosynthesis. Species in the genus are found in Southeast Asia, such as New Guinea, but many species have become naturalized in the new world tropics including South America and the Caribbean!
