Variations in ray color of Mexican hat or thimbleflower (Ratibida columnifera). Deep red with yellow edges and solid yellow are the most common, but there are many other combinations possible.

The brilliant orange-red flowers of standing cypress (Ipomopsis rubra) stand out from far away.
Plecia nearctica pairs. This species is commonly known as the lovebug because the adults spend most of their brief lives (Hymenopappus artemisiifolius), and the extrafloral nectaries of passionflower (Passiflora incarnata). The larvae feed on decomposing organic matter.
Kohleria ‘Silver Feather’ is an aptly named cultivar with soft gray leaves and bright red-orange flowers.
xChamaeolobivia ‘Rose Quartz’. This plant has been through a lot in my care. First it etiolated horribly the first winter I had it, when I was overprotective and kept it indoors. (For the record, it can weather an 8b winter outdoors just fine, which is good because this particular cultivar likes to stretch into spaghetti the moment a shadow passes over it.) Then I moved to the apartment, and it spent three years in a less than optimal spot, producing pups but rarely any flowers. Now, at this house, after 6ish years of mediocrity, it’s finally getting the full sun it wants, and it’s blooming like it’s meant to.
