I forgot my Twitter link in my last post! OOPS here it is now. I’m probably most active there? Also doing a print giveaway right now.

I found an old brush pen that @vantid gave me last Monday and it seemed like a sign that I should try my first Inktober. I had never used the brushpen (nor, indeed, done inktober) before, out of fear (fear of ruining art supplies, fear of sharing). Well, the bush pen was given to me 10 years ago, and the ages have made the brushpen kinda cranky and crusty and it’s much different than the precise micron-type ink pens I’m used to, so it’s been a good way to make myself experiment a bit.
Days 1-5 of #inktober2018 done with straight ink
I desperately love chickens, and have watched sadly over the years as my original flock has dwindled, losing them to things like cancer… and those remaining are 7 years old this year (and doing well though!). Last fall I placed an order for 6 little female chicks, to be delivered this (2018) April. Imagine my surprise when 10 cuties arrived, and one a boy! These are Bielefelders, a friendly, auto-sexing breed. This means that the moment they come out of the shell, males and females have different appearances (which is not so in most chicken breeds… not all, but most). They hatched April 2, 2018 and I love every single one of their tiny faces. Special thanks to @adammillerstudio for the snapshots of me holding them.
The blue and white thing in the first photo is their brooder, which replaces the traditional heat-lamp style, and they seem so, so much happier with this type of brooder. It’s far closer to what they’d experience with a momma hen.
These chicks are so friendly and outgoing compared to some I’ve had in the past! I ADORE THEM!!!
(If you are wondering “why not use a broody momma hen”: for the health of these babies, I have to keep them quarantined for now to give them a chance to build immunity to a fatal disease I have had on my property in the past [Marek’s]).
