Poke milkweed (top, Asclepias exaltata) and butterfly milkweed (bottom – Asclepias tuberosa) – 6/18 at Ferry Bluff, Wisconsin. I love the structure of milkweed flowers – specifically the little horn surrounded by a hood.
Since winter I had been eyeing a strange small island in the middle of one of the creeks running through Baxter’s Hollow, and after a few months it occurred to me that it was covered in horsetails. Today the water was finally low enough for me to jump rocks across to inspect. Indeed, it is a magical little island absolutely covered in horsetails.
