Agave colorata hybrid

Because an agave, or century plant, takes so long to mature and go into flower, a hybridizer would have to live to an advanced age to create a complex hybrid. The plant pictured is an unusual example of a third-generation hybrid, with the pollen parent being Agave colorata and the mother being a hybrid between Agave potatorum and another unknown species. The red-tinged buds are similar to those of A. colorata, but the stalk is taller than that species. We have tried to cross-pollinate this with another agave hybrid to see what happens by continuing the hybridizing one generation more.
