My African violet nursery grows and includes the world’s smallest violet baby!  I habitually root the leaves that get broken off of my plants and some just don’t make it.  I thought mini-baby was one of those. The actual leaf rotted away and I was going to toss it until I noticed a tiny spot of green at the bottom of the stalk.  I put a drop of violet food in the water and moved it all closer to the light and the new plant seems to be growing.  It still may not make it but, at least, it’s being given a fighting chance…

My plants (minus two larger ones).  I started with two African violets from the discounted rack at the grocery and a Christmas cactus I rescued from someone’s trash and now I’ve got a healthy Christmas cactus (plus one growing from its rooted leaves) and eight violets (nine, if the leaf I’m coddling grows into a full plant like a few of its siblings did).  Gotta say, I’m happy with the houseplant crop, though I think I’ve run out of room…
