Ooops? I ended up buying 5 out of those 6 citrus trees I wrote about. I was planning on only getting 2 or 3 at most, but they were so cheap, I couldn’t help myself. They are young, but I got all of them for the price I’d have paid for one lemon tree (slightly larger than the biggest tree in the picture) brought from a garden center. I got a Variegated Orange, Ruby Red Clementine, Pink Finger Lime, Kaffir Lime and Buddha’s Hand.

The ones in the brown pots (Pink Finger Lime and Buddha’s Hand) came broken in the mail – they were supposed to be the biggest plants. I called the seller and he was so nice, apologized and said he’ll send me two new ones right away, the only problem being that he doesn’t have any other Pink Finger Lime old enough so he’ll send me a Green one. I’m not complaining at all, I kind of wanted to get that one as well at some point, so getting it for free is awesome. The broken plants are not unsalvageable I think, they’ll take longer to grow and may be a little crooked, but hopefully the’ll survive. That means I’m getting two extra plants!

I’ll wait a year or so and if they start thriving, I want to buy two more plants from him, a Red Finger Lime and a Red Mexican Lemon and I’m done. Those would be more than enough citrus trees to have and I’ll be a happy girl.

This was supposed to be the last weekend of the year with nice, warm weather, so I drove to the orchard for a couple of hours for some apple picking. There are a few trees like this one in the picture – old, not pruned in forever (soon to be cut down completely), that everyone has been avoiding until now. This is what was picked from them today, some guys will come next week to pick more and the resulting apples will go to a local hospital and a retirement home.

I don’t think this volunteer tomato knows it’s past the middle of October and it should slow down because its time is almost over. It’s covered in flowers and the green tomatoes still ripen slowly, but it won’t last much longer as nights get colder. Too bad because we could have so many more tomatoes off of it.

Volunteer tomatoes doing what they do best; facing the coming winter like it ain’t happening. Truly live-in-the-moment plants.
