why do my orchids keep falling out of their soil?? It’s like the whole plant moves up and out

YEET!

so. the only reason i can think of that this is happening is that the roots are getting longer in the bottom of the pot, but the hard substrate doesn’t allow for much room for them so they push themselves out of the pot to make more space?? or maybe they just float up when i water them????

Huh, so it isn’t just me whose had that happen with orchids lol

Are they leaning towards their light source? They tend to do that since the top of the leaves is a larger surface area than the sides. If you look up pictures of wild plants, most of them lean to one side. Nursery growers and people who grow under lights can give them light directly from above and keep that vertical habit going, but if you have them in a windowsill that’s just what’s going to happen.

Ah…. right, gp. Best I can do is rotate it to fix that.

So Phals. They don’t grow upright in the wild. They grow with leaves hanging down so that when it rains the water runs off and doesn’t cause stem rot. These plants are in an unnatural position and are trying to right themselves. So repot or mount them like they would be in the wild. Phals need to be report annually anyway.

…. Looks like I myself got another houseplant to add to the repotting extravaganza then lol
