Here I am amongst a newly discovered population of Actaea arizonica (formerly Cimicifuga arizonica), Arizona bugbane. These rhizomatous perennials are on our Forest rare and sensitive plants list and are closely monitored every year. They’re very beautiful and have a slightly citrusy smell that I like. I wonder if that smell has anything to do with being the bane of bugs.
