I probably won’t get much feedback, but y’know what?Gonna ask anyways to you of the internet-Which of these perennials do you think I should order for sowing/growing then selling at my greenhouse this 2018/2019? Which would be your top 4? (starred are the native-to-Ontario species):
- *Allium cernuum
- Baptisia alba
- Baptisia bracteata
- Baptisia sphaerocarpa
- *Caltha palustris
- *Echinacea pallida
- Echinacea paradoxa
- *Penstemon digitalis
- Penstemon grandiflorus
- *Ratibida pinnata
- *Veronia
noveboracensis
While not a lot of input I nonetheless got valuable input for this question/list and here are the results with all the votes put together in a bar chart;

I didn’t include Echinacea tennesseensis as I meant to have Echinacea paradoxa instead and somehow stumbled when I initially compiled the list.
I’m not entirely surprised that Veronia wasn’t as popular. However, I WAS surprised on the higher reception for the Allium as well as the lesser reception for Penstemon (not to say I don’t understand as one who doesn’t have any in my gardens, but still I had mis-predicted more interest for them, I would’ve thought it’d be ABOVE Allium for popularity). Baptisa too surprsied me for how many people locked onto that group for being a fav, at the same tangent I’m delighted that Caltha is also an equally popular one.
With this information (and with my own time to simmer on thoughts) I’ve finally put my own vote in relative to everyone else’s to add to the chart;

For ones I think I WILL order for this year; Baptisia alba, B. sphaerocarpa, Caltha paulistris, Echinacea pallida, and Ratiba pinnata.
Along with these I’m hoping to also start/sow (from seeds I already have or will eventually have collected from accessible gardens); Aquilegia canadensis, Arisaema triphyllum, Baptisa australis, and Papaver orientale. While I would love to grow even MORE species from seed this autumn, realistically until I have the 100s of tree saplings sold I do not have the space. For that matter 9 different additional perennial species added to the greenhouse may be pushing it with the limited space that I currently have but we’ll see.
Thanks for the input guys, this has helped me a bit.
