Does anyone have tips on how to get the stupid fake flowers off cacti?
I haven’t had to do it personally so I can’t vouche for either methods but here are three different methods from three different youtubers;
Cactusmain wiggled them off with no other items/equipment
Vegged Out used a hairdryer of some sort to assist via melting the hot glue through heat.
While Jack Spellerberg removed them through the help of alcohol to dissolve the glue.
Looks like each method has its pros/cons and regardless of method looks like any of the methods still have some risk of damaging/scarring the cactus, which is sadly somewhat inevitable as far as hot glued cacti is concerned.
It really depends on the cactus. They’re harder to get off hairier/more densely-spined plants for obvious reasons. I tend to just twist them off and try to pick off what remains; this will leave glue, but that eventually loosens up and falls off on its own. Scissors can help on hairy plants. I don’t personally mind the superficial damage because they outgrow it eventually.
Having tried the methods in the second video above I would recommend against it as it pulled out all the spikes of my cactus that had glue on them and they won’t grow back. I saw someone on here recommending to let the glue degrade naturally in sunlight and then to gently remove it. Seems to me that that would cause less damage. I’d also recommend against using alcohol especially on smaller cacti as it can shrivel them up completely
^ good points to keep in mind from petitplants and syngoniums here
