The flowers, leaves, and milky substance found in the seed pods are highly toxic. If the milky liquid comes into contact with the eyes, it causes blindness. Ingesting any part of the plant causes burning of the mouth and throat, altered vision, convulsions, circulatory collapse, coma, and death.
